The virus in Creation

T

If you look at what’s been made and you look at the evidence around you, it all points to a God who made you.

You may have difficulty with the six days of creation. We can go into that. You may have all sorts of questions.

There’s a book which the Answers in Genesis have produced called ‘The answers book’. It’s got four volumes that give you an answer to almost every objection to this. So, I don’t have time to go into all the objections but if you want to look that up you can do so.

The New Answers Book 1 | Answers in Genesis

But let’s move on because, if this is true, if there is a God who made us, it has implications for how we live.

Yeah, if you make something, then, you can give instructions about how it should be used. You should follow the maker’s instructions.

You may buy some complicated machine like a computer and it comes with instructions which you’re supposed to read and to follow. I usually find the instructions difficult to follow, but that’s another story.

Such machine will come with instructions about how you should use it. If you follow the maker’s instructions, it’ll go well. If you do your own thing and do something totally different, you may foul the machine up.

Therefore, following the maker’s instructions is the key. If you come to the conclusion there is a God who made us, He is going to give us some instructions which He has prepared.

According to Genesis, God gave Adam and Eve one instruction: ‘not to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil ‘lest you should die’’.

Not too difficult to remember, but they didn’t do it. And, as a result, we have the whole problem of the human race.

He gave the Ten Commandments, He gave us Jesus’ teaching, the apostles’ teaching and, if we live within these commandments, we’ll be living like God wants us to live.

If we break them, then, we can end up fouling our lives just like if you do what the machine tells you not to do you can foul it up.

The other problem, especially with a computer, is that you get a virus on it. Has anybody had a virus on a computer?

Yeah, if you get a virus on a computer, it may foul the machine up and cause it to malfunction. And if you’re like me, you can’t fix it. So, you need to get somebody else to fix it. And a virus on a computer is something which is very harmful and will end up destroying it unless it is fixed.

Genesis 3 tells us that the whole human race has got a virus called ‘sin’. It came about because our first parents disobeyed the maker’s instructions and messed up. And so has every generation since.

This virus will spoil our lives and lead eventually to death: ‘the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus’.

The Bible calls this virus ‘sin’ and the Bible tells us there is one who has brought this virus into the world and that he is ‘the devil’ who exists as well as God and he is against us, he wants to destroy us, and he wants to bring in this virus which will destroy us.

We can’t fix it. We need someone who can, someone who can come, outside of us, to help us to get out of this situation.

And, if you struggle with wrong thoughts, with wrong actions and you want to get free from them, you must turn to one who is able to deliver you from that. That ‘One’ is Jesus the Messiah.

It was promised even in the Book of Genesis that the Messiah would come and crush the head of the serpent and be wounded in the process. And that was what happened when Jesus came to die on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, to take the punishment that we deserve so that we could be forgiven and have eternal life through faith in Jesus.

He can fix the problem and He has fixed it. We have God who exists, who’s there, who wants us to come to Him, who is holy and wants to give us eternal life, but we have this barrier of sin which separates us from God. And every human being on the face of the earth is troubled with this problem of sin.

It’s a barrier that we can’t cross by ourselves, we can’t cross it by being religious, we can’t cross it by doing some good deeds to cancel out our bad deeds. We can’t cross it because it’s too vast, it separates us from God.

If you think about it, if you lined up everybody in the church here on the West coast of England and you said you’ve got to swim to America, some people who are good swimmers might get a bit further than others, but no one will get anywhere near getting America.

Some people will do a bit better than others as when it comes to this sin problem, but nobody gets near enough to reach God. We all fall short of the glory of God.

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. There is none who is righteous, no, not one. Including me, including you.

All of us are therefore on the wrong side of this divide. What was needed was for someone to come from the other side, from God’s side to us, to take the punishment for our sins so that, if we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, then, we can know that our sins are forgiven and that we have eternal life.

He provided the solution to cross that barrier through His death on the cross and everyone who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ will know that their sins are forgiven and that they have eternal life through faith in Jesus.

Our problem is sin. The wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.

If you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, if you confess your sins and you accept Him as your Saviour, then, you can know that you are eternally saved and have eternal life through faith in Jesus.

That’s the most important thing you can do in your life.

Going back to me at school, okay, I did do quite well at school, I went to university, got a job, but I didn’t know Jesus.

Until I knew Jesus, my life was on the wrong side of this divide. When I came to know Jesus, I’m moved to the right side and now I know that, whatever happens to me in this life, I have a hope in Him which nothing can take away.

I hope that everybody here has that hope. If you don’t, now is the day of Salvation, and now is the day in which we should call on the Name of the Lord Jesus and have eternal life through faith in Him. Because He’s the only way.

Also, if you think back to what I said in the beginning, it said: I believe in one God and there’s one God and one way to God through faith in Jesus Christ. He is the Way, the Truth, and Life, no one comes to the Father except through Him.

Therefore, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved and have eternal life!

You can believe in God the Father who made you, God the Son who has redeemed you, and God the Holy Spirit who wants to come and fill your life and give you His life now through faith in Jesus.

Let’s just close with a word of prayer. This is a prayer called the sinner’s prayer. If you like, if you’re not sure that you’re a Christian and you’ve never taken that step of faith in Jesus, then, pray this prayer.

And, if you want to pray for somebody else that they might come to faith in Jesus, pray it for them.

Dear Heavenly Father, I admit that I am a sinner. I need your forgiveness. I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died in my place, shedding His blood to pay for my sins. That He rose again from the dead to give me eternal life. I’m willing right now to turn from my sin and accept Jesus the Messiah as my personal Saviour and Lord. I commit my life to you and ask you to send the Holy Spirit into my life, to fill me and take control, to help me become the kind of person you want me to be. Thank you, Father, for loving me. In Jesus’ Name amen. Amen! Praise the Lord!

  • Hi, My name is Barry I am english living in France, I was born in Plymouth in 1940, went to the midlands in 1952 with my parents, there was a mix-up with my education so I left school in 1956 with no qualifications. I was always interested in electrical and radio things started eventually to learn City and Guilds Radio and TV servicing at the age of 18.
I was told by my lecturer that if I did not study for GCE maths then I would have my course canceled. It transpired the lecture was a Christian to which I challenged him “what gives you the right to call yourself a Christian?”
His name was Mr Bernard, he told me that he was one of the worst persons to exist but he had given his life to Jesus, he challenged me, said what about you? go and think about it.
So at 2.30 pm Friday 13th June 1958 I asked Jesus to come into my life and guide me from that day forward. Mr Bernard gave me Romans 8 which meant nothing at that time.
I was introduced to an Assemblies of God church near where I lived and was amazed and enlightened about the whole plan of Gods salvation and the reason why Jesus came to the earth and why he was crucified and what it meant for me.
    I cried buckets.
I do not wish to downgrade the importance of the “sinners prayer” but at that time in my life I did not know that I was a sinner then, the realisation came about two months later, like I said I cried buckets.
God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit knows each one of our hearts and will find a way of entering it no matter who we are or our ways.

  • Thanks very much for your testimony Barry and for the freshness of this account of Salvation that has obviously carried you all these years. You make a great point about ‘not knowing oneself to be a sinner’. What used to be an established practice in most Western societies, knowing Jesus and making Him part of our lives through daily prayer, quoting scripture, admonishing others, etc. has all but disappeared from our education system and has been gradually erased so that today we have nothing but faint shadows of even the least reference to our Lord in daily life. Even for those of us who have come to the Lord, it is easy, unless consciously focussing on walking His Way, to forget that we ARE sinners and remain constantly in need of Jesus’ intercession. May your journey continue to be a fruitful one in the Lord. Blessings.
