Palm Sunday – Matthew 21

P

Praise God we can get the message out to all the people. This message about the coming of Jesus is a remarkable event which is recorded here in the scriptures in which Jesus was fulfilling a large number of prophecies and prophetic types from the Old Testament that reinforced the fact that He truly is the Messiah once sent by God.

If you look at the Gospel of John, you can work out that the date on which this event took place was the 10th day of the Jewish month of Nisan. That is significant because in the Book of Exodus, you find that on the 10th day of Nisan, the Passover lamb was to be set aside to test that it was a perfect lamb without blemish before it was sacrificed on the 14th day of Nisan, on the day of the Passover.

So, the sacrifice of Jesus actually coincides with the time of the Passover and, at the time of the Passover in the Book of Exodus, the Israelites were told to take the blood of a lamb to put it on the doorposts of their houses and put themselves under the door – under the blood of the lamb – so that, on the night of the Passover, when the angel of death passed through the land of Egypt, they would be under the blood, and they would pass over from death to life whereas those who were not under the blood would see that the firstborn of Egypt would be slain. And so, it was a type of the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

As we come to Jesus, we put ourselves under the Blood of the Lamb and therefore we pass over from death to life.
