Then you will walk safely in your way,
And your foot will not stumble.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
The third thing that Isaiah knew about God is that trust in God removes fear. Trust in God removes fear.
David said in Psalm 56 verses 3 and 4:
3 Whenever I am afraid,
Psalm 56.3-4
I will trust in You.
4 In God (I will praise His word),
In God I have put my trust;
I will not fear.
What can flesh do to me?
He will not fear because he trusts God.
In Psalm 56 verses 10 and 11 the psalmist says,
10 In God (I will praise His word),
Psalm 56.10-11
In the Lord (I will praise His word),
11 In God I have put my trust;
I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
David is saying: ‘Whenever I’m afraid, I’ll put my trust in God.
How much do we trust God? How often are we victims of fear?
We need to learn to trust God in verse 4 and again in verse 10, David says in this Psalm,
In God (I will praise His word),
In God I have put my trust;
We can trust God because of His Word. The more we know God’s Word, the easier it is to trust Him, and the more we will trust Him.
Why? Because in Psalm 119 verse 105 we read,
that his word is a light to our path and a lamp to our feet
נ NUN
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
Psalm 119.105
And a light to my path.
It’s from His Word that we gain wisdom and understanding.
Proverbs 3.13 says,
13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
Proverbs 3.13
And the man who gains understanding;
The writer of Proverbs goes on in in that same chapter in verse 21 to say,
21 My son, let them not depart from your eyes—
Keep sound wisdom and discretion;
And, in verse 23,
23 Then you will walk safely in your way,
Proverbs 3.23-26
And your foot will not stumble.
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror,
Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes;
26 For the Lord will be your confidence,
And will keep your foot from being caught.
Do you know? To fear is, ultimately, not to trust God, isn’t it? And, for that reason, Satan always seeks to draw people into fear.
To have faith is to receive God’s promises and to fear will often draw people away from them.
Let me repeat that: To fear is ultimately to not trust God and for that reason Satan always seeks to draw people into fear. That’s his big weapon, isn’t it?
‘Let’s get these people fearful‘, Satan says. ‘Because, when people are fearful, they’ll do anything‘.
Satan always seeks to draw people into fear. To have faith is to receive God’s promises and to fear will often draw people away from them, that’s God’s promises.
