The Assisted Dying Bill – prayers

²¹ Then Israel said to Joseph, “Behold, I am dying, but God will be with you and bring you back to the land of your fathers. ²² Moreover I have given to you one portion above your brothers, which I took from the hand of the Amorite with my sword and my bow.” Genesis 48.21-22

A couple of things to pray for.

I don’t if you know there’s going to be a Bill in the Parliament this week called ‘The Assisted Dying Bill’ (Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill) which could lead to something called ‘euthanasia’, and to, in other words, getting rid of people who are not useful to society.

It’s got certain safeguards but this type of legislation has also been abused in Holland and in Canada where it’s gone much further. So we need to pray about this bill not going through Parliament.

Interestingly, the Justice Minister who’s a Muslim, The Rt Hon Shabana Mahmood MP did speak out against it. She gave quite a good talk against it and was then criticized by another Labour spokesperson who said that ‘she shouldn’t bring God into it’.

Which tells you something about our society. It’s a pity it was not a Christian who spoke out, but we need to just pray about it.

We should also pray about the government which has sided with the International Criminal International Criminal Court against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in a way which is damaging to him and to Israel.

Suddenly, he can’t come here without being arrested. And this is much more damaging to us because it’s putting this country on the side of the enemies of Israel, and delegitimizing the government of Israel which has had to take actions which are very sad in terms of the war but has also defend its people against those who want to destroy them.

We can just pray about these things before we get into the talk:

Lord, we do pray about this Assisted Dying Bill which been proposed to go through Parliament on Friday. We pray that you will prevent it from going through and that you’ll raise up those MPs and those who are concerned about it to speak against it and to prevent it from going through because we see it could bring more harm to our society and more ungodly laws which are against people, particularly in this case, against the elderly.

And we do pray also about the government to stand on the side of Israel and Netanyahu, and about this decision from the Court. We pray the Lord you would reverse this decision and we pray for both for Israel and for our own sake Lord, that we will not be amongst those who do damage to your People Israel, and to the land of Israel. That we would stand by your people even at this time of great need.

We pray this in Jesus name, amen. Amen.
