The politics of Climate Change
A number of weather-related disasters have happened in recent months, floods, fires, heatwaves and droughts. All these have been blamed on ‘anthropomorphic (man-made) global warming’, the issue the world is coming together to address at the COP Climate Conference in Glasgow in November.
The UN’s IPCC released a document calling for drastic action to save the world from catastrophic global warming. This is a theme that is constantly being brought to our attention by world leaders and the mainstream media.
The global warming narrative is that burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) has created a heat blanket that traps hot air on the earth and is causing the temperatures to rise, the so-called ‘greenhouse effect’. Computer models predict rises of up to 4 degrees Celsius by the end of the century if we do not stop using fossil fuels. This would make life impossible in many parts of the earth.
I agree with the environmental cause in relation to looking after the natural world. We should not be burning down forests, dumping plastic waste in the oceans and wiping out animal species and habitats. However, I am sceptical of much of what is being said and done in relation to man-made global warming.
Atmospheric scientists Dr. Gerhard Kramm, Dr. Ralph Dlugi, and Dr. Nicole Mölders have published a paper in the journal Natural Science that debunks the greenhouse effect equation, which they say is “based on physically irrelevant assumptions and its results considerably disagree with observations.” I have a copy of this for those who are technically minded.
The earth’s climate is a hugely complex matter. The main drivers of the weather are the sun, wind direction and ocean currents, which we humans have little or no control over. History shows that weather has been much warmer and colder at times in the past, when there was no use of fossil fuels for industry or transport.
Nor is it true that there is universal warming taking place on earth now. Europe, North America and Asia had very cold weather last winter which continued into the spring, causing serious problems for farmers. There has also been very cold weather in the southern hemisphere winter, which is now continuing into the southern spring. Ice locked at the Earth’s poles is growing and the North Atlantic, Pacific and Southern Oceans, and the South China Sea have recorded cooling temperatures. NASA has noted an absence of sunspots happening now. This is likely to cause colder weather in the coming decade. Despite the claims of the IPCC, average earth temperatures have actually cooled by 0.7 degrees Celsius since 2016.
This kind of information generally does not feature in what people are told by the government, at school, university or on the BBC or other forms of mainstream media. The send out a consistent message that humanity is threatened by ‘catastrophic global warming.’
The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, gave his ‘Common Agenda’ speech to the General Assembly on September 10th. He painted a picture of a world facing a perfect storm of simultaneous crises, including the pandemic and climate change, and called for ‘multilateralism with teeth.’ This means global governance bodies would claim binding legal authority over what they call ‘global public goods,’ by taking power and control from national governments to itself. He promoted a ‘Common Agenda’ with centralised planning at a global level (Agenda 21 / 30).
Klaus Schwab, leader of the World Economic Forum that brings together leaders of government, industry, media and education, to work for solutions to global problems, says the climate crisis can only be resolved by ‘some form of effective global governance.’ He also made the connection between the Covid crisis and the ‘Green New Deal’: ‘At first glance, the pandemic and the environment might seem to be only distantly related cousins; but they are much closer and more intertwined than we think.’
Both issues have been used to make people afraid of something that is going to destroy their lives (Covid or global warming), unless globalist forces step in to save us. Some powerful people have been working on this agenda for some time:
In the 1993 Club of Rome Report, ‘The First Global Revolution’, we read: “In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill…. Humanity requires a common motivation, namely a common adversary in order to realise world government. It does not matter if this common enemy is a real one or….one invented for the purpose.”
Ottmar Edenhoffer – 2008 to 2015 Co-Chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC): “We redistribute de facto the world’s wealth by climate policy… One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. This has almost nothing to do with environmental policy anymore.
Dr. John Holdren, Obama’s Science Czar – “A transnational “Planetary Regime” should assume control of the global economy and also dictate the most intimate details of Americans’ lives — using an armed international police force.” (His book, “Ecoscience”)
Daniel Botkin – emeritus professor: “The only way to get our society to truly change is to frighten people with the possibility of a catastrophe.”
Young people have been told that their future is at stake and many have joined environmental activist groups wanting governments to bring in the Green New Deal now in order to save the world. Many like Greta Thunberg are calling for an extreme response, moving to zero carbon burning now. The only way to get there is to shut down our society, ban cars and planes, bring in a radical change in agriculture, industry and transport which would soon lead to no food, no jobs, no money and freezing to death in the winter. Even the partial measures being proposed will lead to a reduction in ability to travel and produce goods. Costly green measures will contribute to the economic decline of western nations and an increase in the poverty of the developing world.
The Bible does indicate that there will be an environmental crisis in the last days, with an increase in earthquakes, famines and natural disasters. Jesus spoke of the time of the end, when
These things will reach their climax during the great tribulation period, as a divine judgement on a world that is shaking its fist at God. They will be mostly happening as a result of forces being unleashed which we have no control over and which have nothing to do with the burning of fossil fuels. We are beginning to see the forerunners of these events taking place in the natural disasters now happening on earth is shaken by disasters. The only answer will be the intervention of our Creator, as the Lord Jesus returns to put right what is going wrong with our world and cause the earth to be ‘full of the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea’.
Doubts about Darwin
A number of scientists are expressing doubts about Darwin’s theory of evolution. Many are admitting that natural processes, mutations and natural selection could not have produced life on earth as we see it now, and that ‘Intelligent Design’ is the more logical explanation. ‘Intelligent Design’ does not necessarily mean people believe the Genesis account of Creation, but it does acknowledge that some greater power was involved in designing the world and all that lives in it, rather than the blind chance process of evolution.
Henry Gee, editor of the science journal ‘Nature’ says that the typical pictures used by evolutionists of apes evolving into humans are ‘nonsense.’ He acknowledges that evolutionists have a multitude of conflicting stories about human origins and that there is no evidence of any ‘common ancestor’ of apes and humans.
University professor Neil Thomas was a committed Darwinist and agnostic — until an investigation of evolutionary theory led him to a startling conclusion:
As a result he wrote a book ‘Taking Leave of Darwin’, in which he examines historic objections to Darwinism and discovers that these have never been effectively answered. His conclusion? Intelligent design is not only possible but is presently the most reasonable explanation for the origin of life’s great diversity of forms.
There are logical fallacies in the ‘millions of years’ of evolution as the true account of how we came to be here. You don’t need to be a PHD scientist to understand these.
- How can nothing produce something? If the universe is the product of the ‘Big Bang’, how can an explosion take place if nothing is there in the first place? How can the vast order of stars and planets come out of something as disorderly as an explosion?
- How can life come out of non-life? Even the simplest cell has millions of pieces of information in it, enough to fill an encyclopaedia. Apart from the impossibility of this happening, any new creature that comes about this way must be able to sustain itself and to reproduce, otherwise it will soon cease to exist.
- Irreducible complexity. Almost all creatures, humans in particular, are made of incredibly complex organs which have to work together in order to sustain life. Heart, lungs, blood stream, veins and arteries must all work together in order for life to exist. If one part stops for one moment the creature is dead.
- Sexual reproduction. Almost all creatures reproduce by sexual reproduction requiring the male and female of the species to come together and produce the next generation. Ways of reproduction vary and are all very complex, requiring the functioning of male and female, who belong to the same species but have different body parts. Species do not have time to develop these forms of reproduction over millions of years, because if it does not work perfectly in the first generation, that species is finished.
- Humans are different from animals. Humans are unique in that they have a spiritual nature (given by God) and the ability to choose good and evil. Animal behaviour is conditioned by the need for food, a place to live / shelter and the procreation and protection of their species. Some animals may show feelings like fear and contentment, but they do not show any desire to worship God, build cities, create art, music and culture or to do the kinds of evil that humans do, like making war, pornography, drug pushing etc.
Evolution based science has a number of impossibilities built into it, which even billions of years cannot overcome. The best explanation for how we came to be here is found in Genesis which tells us that In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. He made the plants and animals able to reproduce after their own kind from the beginning. He made human beings in the image of God with a spiritual nature to seek after God and find Him. Because sin entered into the world as a result of the Fall in Genesis 3, we now live in an imperfect world, subject to death and where the devil has power to tempt humans to do evil. God has sent the Redeemer, Jesus the Messiah, to save us from our sins and give us eternal life.
The way to the Beast?
Recently I listened to a talk given by a German author and journalist, Ernst Wolff. The talk gave the most fascinating description of how the Mark of the Beast system of Revelation 13 could emerge out of the current situation. That was not his intention, but my deduction from what he said. Here is a brief summary of his talk, which I have spoken of in more detail in my latest ‘This month in prophecy talk’ available at www.bridgelane.org.uk
What Ernst Wolff describes here looks to me like the way the Antichrist will come to power at the head of this power system, given his power by the ‘ten kings’ of Revelation 17.11 and by the Devil himself in Revelation 13. His talk concludes with a call to resist and even revolution against this process. As I see it this will not be possible because at this time it will be said, ‘Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war against him?’ Revelation 13.4.
The fact that people are looking at the possibility of these things happening is another sign that Jesus is on His way. He will be able to make war against the Beast and defeat him, when He returns to set up His kingdom on earth.
