UN and Trump Peace Plan
When President Trump addressed the Knesset on 13th October he congratulated Israel for entering into a new golden age of peace:
‘The sun rises on a holy land that is finally at peace, a land and a region that will live, God willing, in peace for all eternity. This is not only the end of a war, this is the end of an age of terror and death, and the beginning of the age of faith and hope and of God. It’s the start of a grand concord and lasting harmony for Israel and all the nations of what will soon be a truly magnificent region. I believe that so strongly. This is the historic dawn of a new Middle East.’
Donald Trump
It’s not working out like that. However, many see the agreement as a first step towards a kind of temporary (but false) peace along the lines of the covenant of Daniel 9.27:
‘He shall confirm a covenant with many for one week’.
That possibility was made more plausible by the decision of the UN to adopt the plan. Prophecy News Watch wrote:
What began as a U.S-led peace proposal has now been elevated into a global plan. The world’s top governing body, the United Nations Security Council, has publicly embraced it, transforming it into a multinational, multi-power initiative that will be overseen by a newly approved “Board of Peace.”
Prophecy News Watch
As things stand, this board will be chaired by Donald Trump, but beyond that, its members remain unknown. What we do know is that:
- Trump has already suggested it will be composed of very powerful people
- It will oversee reconstruction, demilitarization, and long-term security
- It will guide the region toward what many leaders hope will become a Palestinian (Arab) state alongside the Jewish state of Israel.
This is significant because
- This is no longer a regional project.
- This is no longer an American project.
- This is now a global project.
When Scripture speaks of a covenant “confirmed with many,” it’s describing a political architecture built not by one nation but by many nations aligning behind a single plan, offering guarantees, creating enforcement mechanisms, and presenting themselves as the guardians of peace.
According to Daniel 9.27 the final peace covenant will be confirmed by many.
27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate.” Daniel 9:27
There is a single word in Bible prophecy that demands our attention: וְהִגְבִּ֥יר [wǝhigbîr] ‘confirm’. Daniel 9:27 describes a seven-year covenant that will be confirmed–made strong, supported, guaranteed–by outside powers. This is not merely a diplomatic handshake. It is an already-existing agreement that is elevated, reinforced, and upheld by influential nations or entities who promise to secure it.
It is that word–confirmed–that makes today’s developments so prophetically significant. Because for the first time, what was once a single-nation initiative has now become a global accord. Not an American idea, not a Middle Eastern side agreement, but an emerging worldwide framework. A world government in embryo if you like.’
So is it working?
The living hostages have been released and at the time of writing only two of the dead hostages’ bodies remain to be returned to Israel. A measure of ceasefire is in operation with Israeli forces withdrawing to the yellow line (see map). Israel remains in control of the area between the yellow line and the border of Gaza with Israel and Egypt. Hamas is regaining control of the area between the yellow line and the sea.
Trump’s peace plan requires Hamas to disarm and to have no place in the future government of Gaza. An International Stabilisation Force (ISF) is to supervise the transition to a non military government of Gaza formed by ‘a Palestinian technocratic government.’ There are a number of problems with this:
- Hamas is not disarming. Hamas leaders have repeatedly emphasized that their group has no intention to disarm before the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state. Israel currently rejects any moves towards the establishment of Palestinian state.
- On October 24, several Palestinian factions, including Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), announced that they have reached agreement on the formation of an “independent committee of technocrats” to run the Gaza Strip. In other words Hamas is calling the shots on who will be in the new government of Gaza. Israel and Trump cannot accept this.
- The ISF is not in place and not moving towards being in place. Fatah (political wing of the PLO and the faction now ruling in the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the West Bank) and Hamas do not want Trump’s “Board of Peace” or any international body to play any role in the governance of the Gaza Strip. JNS (Jewish News Service) writes: “The main reason the terror groups oppose the presence of international forces or an international governing body inside the Gaza Strip is evidently that they fear this coalition would obstruct their plan to pursue Jihad (holy war) against Israel. They aim to rearm, regroup and prepare for another October 7-style attack on Israel. To that end, just this year, Iran, despite sanctions, has already managed to smuggle $1 billion to Hamas.“
- Under Trump plan Turkey and Qatar are to play a role. From Israel’s point of view both are hostile nations on Hamas side and anti Israel. Qatar helped in rearming of Gaza previous to Oct 7th. In this case it is a bit like asking the proverbial fox to look after the hen house.
The present situation is one of stalemate. Meanwhile 80-90% of the buildings in Gaza are destroyed. 1 million people are homeless. 80% of the farmland is damaged. 60% of the road network is wiped out. Winter is here and heavy rain has fallen in southern Israel and Gaza. Tents are inadequate and have been flooded out by the rain. The population is being kept in a miserable status quo of unemployment and homelessness with the prospect of disease and starvation growing.
Sadly, the prophecy of Zephaniah 2.4-5 looks increasingly relevant:
4 For Gaza shall be forsaken,
And Ashkelon desolate;
They shall drive out Ashdod at noonday,
And Ekron shall be uprooted.
5 Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast,
The nation of the Cherethites!
The word of the Lord is against you,
O Canaan, land of the Philistines:
“I will destroy you;
So there shall be no inhabitant.” Zephaniah 2:4-5
The Iron Beam – Israel’s new weapon
“For decades, laser weapons lived in the realm of science fiction–more at home in Star Wars than on the modern battlefield. But that boundary quietly shattered one night on Israel’s northern border, when soldiers of the Dragon Battalion watched a Hezbollah drone twist violently in mid-air and fall from the sky with no explosion, no smoke trail, and no sound.
A laser shot it down. That moment marked the first operational use of high-energy laser weapons in world history–and it has triggered what Israeli defence officials are calling a revolution in warfare. In the year since, Israel has confirmed nearly 40 successful laser interceptions, quietly rewriting the rules of air defence.
No missiles. No massive interceptor batteries. Just light–focused, stabilized, and fired with the precision of a surgeon’s scalpel. Israel now fields multiple mobile laser units, including prototypes known as Iron Beam M and Lite Beam. They are already destroying incoming threats at a fraction of the cost of traditional interceptors. An Iron Dome missile costs around $50,000. A laser shot costs about 50 cents.
The system uses the same radar and command-and-control network as Iron Dome. It watches the sky, identifies a threat, and decides–instantly–whether to use a missile or a laser. Once it chooses laser interception, the system sends targeting data to a high-precision laser “director”–a rotating turret capable of tracking fast-moving objects. Instead of one giant laser, the system merges multiple fibre-optic lasers into a single powerful beam. This “combined beam” hits 100 kilowatts of output–strong enough to melt metal in seconds. The laser holds its beam on the target until a wing, motor, or structural component fails. The drone loses stability and drops. What’s astonishing is that all of this happens with almost no noise, no smoke, and no visible trace.
This Changes Everything. Missile defence has always been expensive. Adversaries can launch cheap drones or rockets; defenders must respond with costly interceptors. Lasers flip that equation. Suddenly, launching swarms of drones becomes a losing strategy. As long as a laser battery has power, it can keep firing. No trucks full of missiles. No resupply delays. Electricity becomes the new ammunition. The beam fires and hits instantly–making it ideal for fast, low-flying drones, mortar shells, or rockets at short range. Israel’s engineers say this is just the beginning. Within years we may see: Airborne laser platforms on drones and jets. Laser satellites intercepting ballistic missiles from orbit. Ground lasers disabling aircraft, armoured vehicles, or launch sites.
A decade ago, these ideas sounded like fantasy. Now, after northern Israel’s silent shootdowns, they feel much closer. Warfare is entering the laser age. A future where interception is cheap, silent, and nearly instantaneous. A future where swarming drones become irrelevant. A future where nations will need entirely new strategies–not just new weapons. And like many revolutions, it didn’t begin with a noise, but with silence. A beam of light. A falling drone. And a battlefield changed forever.” Prophecy News Watch
It occurs to me that if this really is effective it could lead to the situation in which Israel has a time of security from the threat of missile attacks which appears to be the situation at the time of the Gog and Magog war (Ezekiel 38.11).
10 ‘Thus says the Lord God: “On that day it shall come to pass that thoughts will arise in your mind, and you will make an evil plan: 11 You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will go to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates’— 12 to take plunder and to take booty, to stretch out your hand against the waste places that are again inhabited, and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land. Ezekiel 38:10-12
