Could it be both?
The veteran philosopher and political activist, Noam Chomsky, wrote in April’s edition of the Spectator magazine: “We’re approaching the most dangerous point in human history… We are now facing the prospect of destruction of organised human life on Earth.”

Chomsky is not the only one warning of a time of extreme danger and crisis coming on the earth. Bible prophecies written centuries ago all point to a time when the things that are happening now will come together in a period known as the last days.
For example, in Jeremiah 25.31-33 we read:
Behold, disaster shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the farthest parts of the earth. And at that day the slain of the Lord shall be from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth.
Jeremiah 25.31-33
In answer to the disciples’ question ‘What will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?’ Jesus said:
“For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places … All these are the beginning of sorrows.”’
Matthew 24.3, 7-8
Wars, famines, plagues, and natural disasters are all on the increase causing us to see the beginning of sorrows period.
Jesus goes on to say that this will lead to the great tribulation:
“For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.”
Matthew 24.21-22
If God did not intervene to stop this time it would lead to the end of life on earth.

These things happening are a sign of the second coming of Jesus Christ. He will come this time in a quite different manner from His first coming when He came in humility to suffer and die as a sacrifice for the sin of the world and to rise from the dead to give eternal life to all who repent and believe the Gospel. When He comes the second time He will come as King of kings and Lord of lords with all the power of God to judge the world in righteousness and bring an end to human mismanagement of the planet God gave us to look after.
Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Matthew 24.29-31

If we look at the prophecies of the Bible for the last days before the return of Jesus, we find that there will be two apparently contradictory trends taking place. The world will be falling apart, but also coming together.
The world is falling apart
The war in Ukraine and the terrible destruction it has brought is the most obvious present threat, as the Russian invasion and NATO’s response have brought the global security order to the brink of collapse, with a danger of nuclear war. The massive debts built up by western economies since the global debt crisis of 2008 have been added to by the Covid lockdowns and the Ukraine war. This could lead to an economic meltdown in the coming year. There is a worldwide environmental crisis with potentially devastating results.

Perhaps the most immediately concerning problem is the growing food crisis. A significant amount of grain has been removed from the world market due to the war in Ukraine, while droughts, floods, heatwaves, and unusually cold weather in places have affected food production around the world. Shortages of fertiliser and rising costs of fuel are causing farmers to cut back on production of food, while animal diseases are causing millions of pigs, chickens, and fish to be slaughtered and removed the food chain. A spate of mysterious fires has burned down a number of major food processing centres across the USA.

As a result, prices of food and energy are skyrocketing driving millions into poverty. Rockefeller Foundation President Rajiv Shah told Bloomberg Television’s David Westin a “massive, immediate food crisis” is on the horizon. Shah provides what could be a timeline for the next global food crisis that could begin “in the next six months.” One-fifth of the entire population of the globe could soon descend into poverty and hunger.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum conference in Davos David Beasley, director of the UN World Food Programme, warned the world’s food security conditions are “worse” than what was observed during Arab Spring over a decade ago. That emergency led to revolutions toppling of Arab governments in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and the war in Syria, the massive refugee crisis and contributed to the collapse of Lebanon. What will this one do? Already we are seeing social unrest in Sri Lanka, which is running out of money, food and fuel and people are facing the prospect of starvation. When people get hungry, they get angry, and revolutions happen.

There is an interesting angle on this coming out of Iran. People have been taking to the streets in cities across Iran to protest a massive hike in food prices. The government’s answer is to bring in food subsidies. But there’s a catch — the lower prices are only available to those who sign up to ‘digital ration cards.’

Initially, the Iranian government compensated for the rise in prices of basic foodstuffs by dolling out cash to 90% of the population; however, many analysts believe this would cause further inflation (which already stands at 40+%). The next stage, according to government officials, will be a ceasing of those payments within a couple of months, and in their place will be ration cards. If you want to pay the affordable prices, you’ll need to ‘take the card’. These can be refused to you if you don’t behave as the government wants you to.

Iran is set to be the first country to roll out a food rationing scheme based on new biometric IDs. It is being helped by China in setting up this system. What better way to bend the masses to your will than making food prices so unattainable that the roll-out of food passports are widely deemed necessary, by a population who are otherwise facing starvation? Is this the shape of things to come worldwide? Henry Kissinger once said, ‘control food, control people.’
The world is coming together
There are people who say that the answer to the crisis the world is facing is bring the world together in some kind of global government. This aims to save the world from catastrophe and resolve the issues threatening humanity, like the health crisis (Covid), climate crisis and scarcity of food, energy, and money.

While people who believe the Bible are looking to the second coming of Jesus as the answer, several world leaders in the areas of politics, commerce, science, and health are calling for a humanist solution, leaving God out of the picture. Influential voices are calling for the world to come together along the lines proposed by UN Agenda 30 and the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) ‘Great Reset’.

They saw the worldwide Covid crisis as a first step in moving the world in this direction. WEF Chairman, Klaus Schwab, wrote in his book ‘Covid 19 – the Great Reset’, ‘This pandemic represents a rare but narrow opportunity to reflect, reimagine and reset our world…. The world should work for a new order which will ‘only come about through some form of effective global governance.’ On the opening day of the World Government Summit in Dubai in March 2022 he called for world leaders to unite to address global issues such as climate change, trade, and economic disruption.

These leaders believe the programme required for this must accelerate the changes to ‘zero carbon’, reducing, then eliminating the use of fossil fuels. To do this, individuals and companies must reduce their use of carbon. They are looking at ways to monitor people’s use of carbon by tracking the amount of energy they use.
Michael Evans, president of Alibaba Group (a massive Chinese based hi-tech company) told the WEF that the multi-billion-dollar company was creating a carbon footprint tracker to monitor people’s consumption around the world.
“We’re developing, through technology, an ability for consumers to measure their own carbon footprint. What does that mean? That’s where are they travelling, how are they travelling, what are they eating, what are they consuming. We don’t have it operational yet, but this is something that we’re working on.”
Michael Evans
This ties in with a proposal to bring in something called ‘ESG scores’ (environmental, social and governance factors) that would monitor and record people’s use of energy, with the power to cut off those who use too much.

At the same conference Dr Pippa Malmgren said, that the world is on the brink of a dramatic change, which will bring an end to the traditional system of money and accounting. This will eliminate cash and bring in Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), a fully digital system connected to blockchain technology run by the world’s central banks. A new report from the Bank for International Settlements estimates that up to 90% of national central banks are at least in the planning stages for launching a central bank digital currency. The IMF has been exceedingly vocal about the need for a global digital currency system in the near future to provide “stability” in the face of national inflationary crisis events.

One cause of instability has been the expulsion of Russia from the SWIFT international exchange system, which allows governments and central banks to exchange data and transfer vast sums of capital quickly and accurately. The Kremlin has talked often about using crypto and digital currencies to bypass restrictions. Together with China they are looking at ways to establish digital products to work around SWIFT. This development would have serious implications for the USA as the world’s reserve currency and could bring on an economic crisis in America and the western world in the not-too-distant future.

Central Bank Digital Currencies already exist in some form in China and are on the way to becoming the means of changing the present economic system into a fully digital one in which cash and cards are abolished and everyone is required to have a digital ID connected to blockchain technology run by the central Bank system. This gives the bank (and potentially the government) the ability to check where people are getting their money from and so be used as a weapon in the battle against crime and tax evasion. They can also monitor every financial transaction you make from buying a house to a cup of coffee. It also gives them the possibility to restrict you financially, if they think you are misbehaving in some way.
In China the Credit Score system is fully integrated into an advanced surveillance state by which the government can monitor where people go, who they meet, what they spend their money on and so on.

To comply people would need to be given a digital ID to access their money. This could also be made to include your vaccine status and be required to access social media and Internet use and monitor your ESG score. This digitalised system has the potential to be able to identify anyone on earth.

Several hi-tech systems are being trialled which could help bring this to pass. Mastercard recently launched a program for retailers to offer biometric payment methods, like facial recognition and fingerprint scanning. At the checkout, users will be forced to authenticate their payment by showing their face or the palm of their hand instead of being allowed to pay by card or with cash.
The program has already gone live in five grocery stores in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with more trials also planned for Asia and the Middle East. Mastercard says it plans to roll it out globally later this year for small and large retailers. Ajay Bhalla, the president of cyber and intelligence at Mastercard, said:

“The way we pay needs to keep pace with the way we live, work, and do business, offering choice to consumers with the highest levels of security. Our goal with this new programme is to make shopping a great experience for consumers and merchants alike, providing the best of both security and convenience. All the research that we’ve done has told us that consumers love biometrics”.
Ajay Bhalla
Sceptics say this is a move towards a time when supermarkets will no longer accept cash or card payments, and instead make customers use their face or fingerprints to pay for essential items, in what is another huge leap toward a dystopian cashless society (and a potential way into the 666 system of the Book of Revelation – more on that later).

Meanwhile Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla impressed the audience at the World Economic Forum in Davos with news of a pill being developed that sends signals to the authorities that the pill has been taken and ingested. He said, “It is a (basically) biological chip that is in the tablet. Once we take the tablet it dissolves into the stomach, while the chip sends a signal that you took the tablet. He spoke how this could be used to monitor patients taking their required medicines in “specific” conditions such as “schizophrenia and cancers” to ensure compliance.
What could possibly go wrong with a pill like this? But it could also be used as a means of controlling the general population. What if a supra national health organisation is given power to declare that all people must take it to save the world from pandemics?

It so happens that in May the UN’s 75th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland called for an international treaty on pandemics, drawing from the lessons learnt during the COVID-19 pandemic. The time has come for a global pandemic treaty said World Health Organization (WHO) President Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. ‘There will be other pandemics and other major health emergencies. The question is not if, but when. Together, we must be better prepared to predict, prevent, detect, assess, and effectively respond to pandemics in a highly coordinated fashion. To that end, we believe that nations should work together towards a new international treaty for pandemic preparedness and response. The plan is to work on drafting and negotiating this treaty to be discussed at the next meeting of the WHO in August, then delivered to the 76th World Health Assembly in 2023 to adopt it by 2024.’

He said a Pandemic Treaty would address gaps in the ‘global governance’ of threats to global health security and ‘start sketching out a ‘New World Order’ to handle future health crises. We don’t have rules of the game … To manage shared problems, like pandemics, you need laws and rules that bring obligations to countries. That’s what we miss.”
Included in its goals are early detection and prevention of pandemics, a stronger international health framework with the WHO as the coordinating authority on global health matters and a “One Health” approach, connecting the health of humans, animals, and our planet. It also requires surveillance alerts using new digital technologies and better communication and information to citizens. They say that ‘Misinformation threatens public trust and risks undermining public health responses.’ Concrete measures should be foreseen to improve reliable and accurate information flow and tackle misinformation globally.

So, misinformation (questioning the WHO line) will be stamped on, removed from circulation, and the complete control of the narrative be handed over to an unelected global body. Opponents of this say that under this treaty, the WHO could order mandatory vaccines, global digital health IDs, lockdowns, isolation, testing regimes, no-jab-no-job rules, or anything else it decides as policy, irrespective of dissenting national voices. This treaty would inject a new supra-national global governance structure on the world in times of what we are being told is an inevitable, future pandemic or declared global health emergency.
The dangers of this were explained by Christine Anderson, a member of the European Parliament. She said,
“The WHO is to be given de facto governmental power over member states in the event of a pandemic. The EU Commission will NOT protect its citizens from the possible excesses of such arbitrary rules by the power elites.” She asked the EU Commission, “To what extent would it ensure that the principles of the people’s rule would be respected and that citizens would not be subjected to the arbitrariness of the WHO.”
Christine Anderson
The answer she received was clear and brief: NOT AT ALL!

The treaty is being backed by the USA, UK, EU, and Australia, while a number of groups within these countries are protesting against it. It has met resistance from several countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, and Malaysia. Brazil in particular said it would exit WHO altogether, rather than allow its population to be made subject to the new amendments. Whether the WHO succeeds in bringing in such a treaty is by no means certain, but the fact that they have tried to do so tells us something about the forces at work in the world today.
1Thes 4:16a already happened in the 20th C and the world rejected/missed it. Body change is the only thing yet to happen for those who recognized that descent, so we can meet the Lord “in the air”.
Could you explain what you’re referring to in the 20th century Roy? Thanks in advance.
