How do I trust in God?

H

Trevor Stewart-Sweet

It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in princes.

Psalm 118.8-9

Isaiah put his trust in God. He acknowledges that God is the only One he can trust.

The word used for ‘trust’ here means ‘to have confidence in’, ‘to be secure’, ‘to have hope’.

Is that true of you? Is that true of me? So we really trust God?

It’s something we prayed for today, isn’t?

We need to trust God for us and we place our trust in God.

But beyond that, can we be sure that there are no idols in our lives that take the place of God? Like television or Tick Tock, or Facebook, or Instagram.

Do we put our trust in God, or do we trust in ourselves or other people?

Proverbs 3, verses 5 and 6 says,

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

Proverbs 3.5-6

We are to trust God and not self.

In Psalm 118, that beautiful song of Praise, in verses 8 and 9, we read:

It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in princes.

Psalm 118.8-9

Sometimes, we place too much confidence in our leaders, don’t we? And we forget that we should put our trust in God, our confidence in God. We’re to trust God and not man.

But that’s a constant challenge, isn’t it? I’m sure one we all face, but it’s one that we can all overcome if we focus on God’s Word and not the world.

There’s a reward for those who trust in God.
